MASHED POET-ATOES is a genre-blending showcase mashing up poetry, improv, and comedy. This potato is hot, and it gets mashier as we pass it around. Featured poet Dominic Berry will perform a set of original poems. In between each poem, we will pass the potato to a team of improvisers, and they will create a series of new scenes inspired by the poetry. At the end of the show, poet and improviser Torrey Shine will deliver the final "mashed poet-ato" - a new original poem created during the show, mashing up themes and characters from throughout the night. Dominic Berry is an award-winning poet. He was 2017 Glastonbury Festival Poet in Residence, winner of the 2020 and 2017 Saboteur ‘Best Spoken Word Artist’ award, and has toured his verse across USA, Canada, India, New Zealand, Australia, South America and Europe. His other awards include winning New York’s Nuyorican Poetry Cafe Slam, UK Superheroes of Slam and, as of 2021, nine Arts Council England Grants for the Arts awards.
Torrey Shine is a genre-blending spoken word artist. Her spoken word mixes clever social commentary with personal narrative, engaging the audience through a dynamic mix of rhythm, rhyme, wordplay, wit, body movement, humor, and soul. Torrey is a two-time winner of the Jam Cruise Gong Show, a three-time winner of The Moth Storytelling Slam, and she has competed in the National Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam multiple times. Torrey was a featured performer at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival, where she regrettably set-clashed with Dolly Parton.
